The goal of this project was to create a modern, low maintenance deck that would gracefully cascade down into a backyard lawn area. The project involved the removal of a metal guard rail and concrete stair while keeping an existing concrete base for use as a foundation for construction of the new deck. The project composed various elements such as benches, rails, trellis, steps, planters, and various height platforms into a unified, sculptural design. The project was built predominantly of composite wood decking with accents of painted wood overlay board. One of the main design elements involved the transformation of a non functioning stone grill into a planter/trellis element mounted onto the backside of an existing stone chimney.
