SETH BERKOWITZ LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
15 Parker St. Residence
Melrose, MA
The client for this project was looking to create an outdoor area that would have a large deck space directly adjacent to their house as well as a play space for their children located nearby. While still spatially separating both program elements the overall design is unified into one composition through the overlapping of different forms and materials. The wood used on the deck space flows into the play area in the form of retaining steps that transform into a storage shed/pergola element. This element is also composed of semi-transparent colored fiberglass panels. These panels continue as the dominant material for an adjacent fence dividing the front and rear yards. The orientation of the design, predominantly along the backside of the house, maximizes the amount of open lawn.
