This project consisted of the redesign of a 30’x15’ space located in front of a 5 story brick residential building. The existing conditions created an inaccessible, overgrown site enclosed by a chain link fence. The new design opened the site, allowing it to be occupied by residence and neighbors, creating a new urban garden in the process. The design consisted of a new 6’ height wood fence located along two edges of the site that help screen an existing transformer from view. The fence gradually becomes more transparent as it opens up to the front entrance corner of the site. This open corner consists of a pea gravel seating area with a custom wood bench. The site is predominately in shade and as a result many of the plant species are shade tolerant but still provide seasonal interest and select screening.
